Feminism destroyed chivalry. I'm surprised you remembered it existed enough to even ask a question about it.

I agree that it depends on the circles you move in but I've also found that there appears to be a lot of chivalry in the New England states for some reason. So much so that I couldn't help but notice a diffence between that part of the US and the city I live in here in Canada. The gentlemen live on the eastern seaboard from what I can see. :-)

Not necessarily, in my opinion. I think some of the behaviors associated with chivalry are, for the most part, manners. I agree that a lot of it depends on one's social circle and what value is placed on simple politeness. However, if you associate a man supporting a woman financially (outside of the requirements during pregnancy and parenting, etc.) , I'd say the concept is antiquated. Yes, we woman can open our own doors but the polite gesture is appreciated ... we can also however enjoy a relationship as an independent and autonomous member of an equal partnership.

I think it is dead and women have destroyed it, but this isn't necessarily bad. The role of women in society is changing, and consequently, chivalrous customs are being squeezed out. Men are pushed and pulled in too many different directions now. Some (not all) women want men to open the car door for them and pull out their chairs, but then these same women can't understand why the struggle for equal treatment is so hard. Very good question.

Yes, it is dead, and it's a damn shame. I don't think there is any particular reason for it, just the times have changed.
