The best chance for conception is the to have sex the 2 days before and the day of ovulation, not the day after. The reason is because sperm generally live 2 days and the egg-white cervical mucus your body produces just before ovulation helps to protect the sperm until you ovulate. When you ovulate, the egg is released and will only survive 24 hours. The egg must also be fertilized in the tube or it won't implant when it reaches the uterus, so it is best that the sperm is already in you when you ovulate.
The reason doctors advise sex at least every other day for several days is because it is often hard to pinpoint ovulation, even when using ovulation kits and charting basal body temperatures. Also, not every woman ovulates the same day each month.

Your egg is fertile for a 12 to 24 hour period, that is the time you can get pregnant. If you are trying to get pregnant they say to have intercourse three days before on and three days after to make such you catch that open period. The three days before because of early ovulation and sperm can live for about three days in a woman's uterus. On the day so you are probably will catch the day and three days after for a late ovulation.
Yes the purpose of the sex the rest of the month is just for pleasure.

It's true that there has to be an egg cell released in order for a pregnancy to occur. However, it is possible for sperm to survive several days in the uterus. And there exists the possibility that some women may ovulate more than once in a given cycle. Bottom line- pregnancy can occur regardless of when in your cycle you have sex.

That is not entirely true....You have to count 14-16 days after your period and before the next and there are like 4-6 days that are the best time to concieve....go to the doller store(believe it or not), and by an Answers ovulation test...the actually are proven to work the best, and they are inexpensive....good luck...

Yes. Egg=baby. No egg=no baby.
You can ovulate sparatically though. It's not always exactly on schedule. Mens sperm live in us for a week or so after sex. Our eggs are fertile for 24 hours after being released. All of these things mean you can get pregant & ovulate ANYTIME.

Yes. And if you are trying to conceive then my best advice would be to well educate yourself on the process. Some really good websites would be babyzone.com, babycenter.com, webmd.com. That should get you started in the right direction. And sex anytime should be for pleasure. If you put stress on having sex just to conceive then it defeats the purpose! Hope that helps! Good Luck!

Seriously, about 2 weeks ago I was discussing this topic at work. Most of them men who are fathers.
I understand the way it truly works is: When you want the child the most, you will not have success getting pregnant. It is usually with the worst timing do you become pregnant.

Well, techincally, yes. But having sex the other days of the month could also cause pregnancy. Sperm can live up to 6 days inside you.
