Try "House of leaves" by Mark Z Danielweski. It is without a doubt, the best book I've ever read.
The book is a story that weaves in and out of two separate stories. One is about an apprentice tattoo artist who finds a trunk full of loose papers, and starts to piece together the papers. After a while the seemingly random pages start to come together and they seem to be an analyzation of a strange documentary that doesn't, as far as he can tell, exist. This part of the story tells how the process of piecing the story together slowly takes over his life, haunting both his dreams and waking hours.
The second story is the account of the documentary itself, which tells of a family that moves into a house. The father, who is an award winning photographer, gets an art grant and uses the money to buy video cameras attached to motion sensors all around the house. His idea is to show how people move into a house, and make it their own. Strange events take place in the house, and one day the family decides to take off for a short while. When they return, they find a door at the end of the hallway seemingly from nowhere, a door that is mounted in an outer wall, and should therefore open up to the outside. But when they open the door, they find a dark hallway, echoing into the darkness.
This is one of the longer books I've read, but I relished every single page of it. I would recommend this book to anyone, as it may be remembered as one of the best books of our time.

Sounds like you would really like most of the books written by Frank Peretti. He is a Christian author who writes wonderfully suspenseful books. You would probably like The Phophet,This Present Darkness or Piercing the Darkness (the second is a sequel of the first),The Oath (warning...its fairly grusome). My favorite book by him is Visitation. The mystery in it is great--but it spends a lot of time in flashbacks and the suspsense is not so much the wild page-turning what's gonna happen next ride as his other books (at least till the end), but a slow growing un-ease (less action, more mystery).

You also might like "The Testament" by John Grisham. Expect a few swear words--but you won't be turned off by it's message. The plot: An old billionaire commits suicide, leaving most of his money and assets to an illigetimate daughter who he's barely even seen (don't remember if he had even met her). Turns out she's now a missionary to a secluded tribe in South America--and the main character is hired to go find her. It kept me hooked from beginning to end. Still one of my favorite books.

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman is a dark mystery/fantasy type book about a murder in the world underneath London. It has an angel in it :-)

Relic by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child is a good suspense/thriller about a monster that's killing people in a museum.

Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series is a funny action/comedy series about a young woman (Stephanie Plum) in New Jersey who takes a job as a bounty hunter to pay her bills. She's not very good at it, but she does meet some interesting people.

I'm such a geek - I like the TV show "Monk" and have read two books written by the creator of the show. They're just like the show - down to Monk's quirks and mannerisms and I have enjoyed both of them greatly!

Action, mystery, suspense and Christianity?

Sounds like you're describing The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco.

But you better also like to THINK hard.
