Absolute threshold is the minimum amount of physical energy needed to produce a sensory experience. (e.g. the minimum amount of force needed to produce a touch sensation)

Difference threshold is the smallest amount that a stimulus can be changed for there to be a difference noticed (e.g. the dimming of lights, how much does it need to dim in order for a change to be noticed?)
