I was thinking go for cider/hot chocolate, walk around look at the lights, watch some xmas specials at my place. What would be be some other great ideas for an evening date?
I cannot find a one horse open sleigh.

You have pretty good ideas! Walking around with hot chocolate in a thermos looking at lights is always fun. As mentioned you could go ice skating. You could also go to a toy store and buy a couple gifts for a kid's toy drive. There are also a lot of kids putting on Christmas plays (churches, schools, etc).

go caroling
start some sort of tradition that the two of you might be interested in doing every yerar for the rest of your lives together
