Over The Hedge
A scheming raccoon fools a mismatched family of forest creatures into helping him repay a debt of food, by invading the new suburban sprawl that popped up while they were hibernating...and learns a lesson about family himself.
Madagascar
Spoiled by their upbringing with no idea what wild life is really like, four animals from New York Central Zoo escape, unwittingly assisted by four absconding penguins, and find themselves in Madagascar, among a bunch of merry lemurs.
They are both really funny.

seven brides for seven brothers - musical, brought it home for my sister's birthday, she's 10 and she loved it. Its about a family of brothers who live outside of town. The eldest goes to town and comes back with a wife. This gives his brothers the same idea but things don't go very smoothly. Its great film and if you get the feature edition its shows bits from the making of it where everything was done manually before special effects existed.

The BFi (British Film Institute) have doen some research and have a list of 50 film all children should see before they are 14 - Here's the link http://www.bfi.org.uk/education/coursesevents/conferences/watchthis/
The top ten are
•Bicycle Thieves (Vittorio De Sica, 1948, Italy)
•ET The Extra-Terrestrial (Steven Spielberg, 1982, USA)
•Kes (Ken Loach, 1969, UK)
•The Night of the Hunter (Charles Laughton, 1955, USA)
•Les Quatre Cents Coups (François Truffaut, 1959, France)
•Show Me Love (Lukas Moodysson, 1998, Sw/Dk)
•Spirited Away (Hayao Miyazaki, 2001, Japan)
•Toy Story (John Lasseter, 1995, USA)
•Where is the Friend's House? (Abbas Kiarostami, 1987, Iran)
•The Wizard of Oz (Victor Fleming, 1939, USA)
If I had to pick one - I'd go for ET, a classic!

I would suggest " RETURN TO OZ " , a movie made in the 80's. Dorothy and Toto return to Munchkin-land only to find destruction and the return of the bad witch. Naturally, Dorothy and friends ( including the TIN MAN ) save the day, buy not before going up against a haunted mountain. The kids will love it , and they will love you for showing it.. I don't think you can go wrong with a Disney film especially something like Finding Nemo.
If I think back to my last day of school at xmas, we used to watch 'Wizard of Oz' (I think it was the only film that the school owned!)
Anyway - point being, we all longed for a xmas film!! Maybe something like SCROOGED or perhaps the Tim Allen Santa Claus films!?!
Good luck with it though!!
