james randi is offering one million dollars to anyone that can show any evidence of any paranormal, supernatural, or occult power or event, under proper observing conditions. so until someone wins this prize, we can safely say that there is no scientific merit to palm reading.

There is one instance that I know of where there seems to be validity. There is a special line called the Simian Line possessed by about 1% of the population. It is when the heart and head lines join to form a straight line across the hand. Palmists read this as one who has the passion and logic intimately tied together, resulting in someone that is very firey and spirited. In reality, prisoners have been shown to have a higher than normal rate of this line. Also, this line is often indicative of genetic abnormalities. Those with Down's Syndrome frequently possess this line.

Not scientic merit but it's not a faith thing, it's a supersitious/supernatural thing. Too, it depends what cultural background a person comes from. I have learned that some women are at times required to learn it in some countries.
