My friend's son is marrying a girl from Brazil. She and the whole family will be ariving this evening late.
Many of us here in west Michigan hug as a greeting especially in a situation like this, welcoming new family.
Are Brazilians generally warm like that or are they ordinarally friendly but don't like physical contact like a hug.
I'm not talking about the kissing like in France or Itally, just a warm hug and pat on the back.

They'll be offended if you DON'T touch them, lol... Brazilians are very warm and tend to get very physical when greeting someone. Hugs and pats in the back are very common (also kisses between a man and a woman).

I am Brazilian and I think a hug is a warm welcome. I like it.
Here in Canada, most people don't like physical contact. But Brazilians do. Either shake their hands or give a warm hug.
The kisses on the cheeks are very common between men and women. Even being 100% Brazilian, I don't completely agree with that. I feel very unconfortable kissing the cheeks of someone I just have been introduced. Instead, I usually offer my hand to shake.

I'm from Brazil and definitely a hug and/or a cheek kiss is very welcome when you are introduced to a new friend, specially in your situation.
One interesting thing is about the kiss. Depends on which part of Brazil you are heading, is normal to kiss one, two or three times on the cheek when you are introduced to a new person of opposite gender.
Example. At Sao Paulo, one kiss is the most common way, but at country side 2 or 3 kisses are the standard :-D
