Our government is spending millions of dollars on a war with no real solution ;our occupation in that country was unnessacary and still is .i have been against this war from the start , but the real kicker is the amount of money the U.S. spends annually could feed and clothe several forieng countries. Further more before u agree (or disagree) you could be assisting too with that 300 hundred dollars spent on a digital camera or shoes you didnt need Christmas never mean mass media paints it to be. People say its not thier responsibilty but if not then whoes is it? They say i work and its mines all mines , but dont you think if the starving could find work they would. i my self am takin a stand to stop spending frivioulously and keeping all i have for my self because i realize giving a few bucks a month isnt enough. Every minute a child dies of starvation every minute another dies of AIDS related sicknesses just in Africa. Dont cha think we have our priorities on the wrong thing

Wow, that's alot of stuff you're trying to say in one paragraph.

If you're asking about American's being greedy, NO, and it is presumtious of you to call americans selfish, greedy, materialistic, warmongers. Do you know any American soldiers? Trust me, they are not selfish.

This may be a shock to you, but it is not our place, the USA, to feed and clothe the world. That may sound callous, but it's true.

I also don't think we are the world's police. We are not occupying Iraq, FYI. Read some history about occupation, and oppressive occupiers, say WW2?

American citizens are among the most generous and giving in all the world. See the attached link. It's interesting, even though it's politically slanted.

I agree that Christmas is way to commercialized. But, look at how much is given each year to charities, and time volunteered to help the less fortunate. It would amaze you. Even with this great commercialization, people still give.

You really don't get capitalism do you? And again, read the first link.

Good for you, taking a stand on consumerism. If you feel you need to do more, volunteer your time to help with your church, or local charities, soup lines, etc.. If' that's not enough, you may want to join the peace corps?

You also lump the war on terror, and the conflict in Iraq in with charity. Please do some reading about what the US led coalition is doing in Iraq and Afghanistan.

On a final note, if you're an American or a foreigner, please read and learn more about the United States, and it's citizens. We are a loving giving people, and unfortunately despised and misunderstood by many.

There are countless motives: We use 0.5 the potential of the international. individuals fairly supply a lot less per capita than Europe. because, as each usa does, we pay attention of our own self pastimes, our pastimes are so extensive even with the truth that, it touches an excellent type of the international. because we are the wealthiest usa ever, there is the expectancy that lets do more desirable, this will be a idea, it will be partly authentic - commonly relies upon on perspective. Why do you ask a question and then gripe on the persons who may answer it? keep the preaching for church and pose it as genuine question in case you want intense solutions. only a practise, you're making some valid factors and then lose it on the right.

Nothing wrong with our priorities. The war which you so much despise, is fighting for the very thing you are trying to promote. If you want to talk about greedy... how about a brutal dictator who spent billions himself on lavish palaces and all the pleasures of life for him and his family while the regular citizen scratched out an existence with little hope of a better future. Have you heard about the schools and hospitals that much of the "war" money is being spent on? No... the media doesn't want to promote the idea that we are doing anything good over there. These improvements will allow them to have hope for a future.

I think our priorities are in the right place... can you tell me any government that has better placed priorities?

nope, i just think african governments are all crap and they dont know how to manage their own natural sources. people needs to buy things for christmas. its logic. even if is something not really necesary. people work , get money for it and then its time to waste it. everybody does. thats call market. and thats why people work.
the problem is not what we do with our bucks. the problem is what african governments are doing. after years of their independence, they didnt improve anything. why they didnt improve and governments in asia or south america improved????

aaaah...to do not waste money in cameras will not solve the problem in africa.

by the way, they are many people killed by sadam, and we people that live in europe know a lil bit more about extrem islamists than u guys in usa. is all about inmigration.
so, ill prefer to keep em all away from governments.

If everyone in the world lived like Americans, we would need like 8 planet Earths of resources to support our lifestyle.

I agree, America has become fat, dumb, happy, shallow and arrogant. And we are headed for a fall, just like every other empire that got too big for its own good.
