I have to write a paper on the play and the qeustions are:

What is the most difficult thing about the script to understand? (This could be a character, a specific scene, some element of the background story, etc.) Why?

What do you think this play is trying to teach us? Does it still relate to us today? Why or why not?

I think the most difficult thing to understand is whether you can change your destiny. If Oedipus' parents had kept him, he would've know his father and not killed him when he met him on the road. On the other hand, his parents hadn't gotten rid of him yet when the oracle gave them the prophecy so was it even possible to avoid it?

Only you can answer your homework questions. Esp. the first one.

Look at what it is the causes Oedipus to fall. What is it about him that has caused him to make the decisions he has made? Why does he seek to rectify Laos' murder? What spurred his actions on the highway? What is he afraid of? Are his motivations ones we can relate to? Are his feelings and desires ones we can understand and relate to?

Those questions should help you know what to look for as you look at the play.

Yes, I've read them.

But I suspect that you haven't. If you had, you wouldn't have any difficulty answering such basic questions.

Good luck.
