I'm not too good at the lingo, but I'm basically looking for a good value camera, willing to pay up to around $300. Want something compact and easy to use with a good battery and obviously good quality - possibly SLR, although I've never used one before. Any suggestions on a good one? ~I don't have much time to browse, just in NY for a few days, and I'm not good on the lingo - what should I look out for?

I bought a sony digital camera a couple of years ago from B&H Photo online, they have good prices and I believe there is a store in the city you could shop around in.

B&H is a good suggestion. They're very knowledgable and they have tons of staff to help you. They have a store in Manhattan right near Penn Station. Nice big place with tons of stuff, and they have a used department, too.
