In slightly more words, if I can give a woman dinner to have sex with me, smoke tobacco and drink alcohol (one of the most destructive poisons we put in our bodies), why shouldn't I be able to give a woman money to have sex with me, and smoke pot or opium?

Drug prohibition, in particular, has given us the most deadly narcotics, like crack and heroin, since the illegal status of opium and cocaine forced distributors to create more compact and addictive drugs to maximize the return on their investment.

Emotions about my own loved ones aside............Prohibition has never fully worked anywhere. In China this year they've shot many drug dealers in the back of the head and I'm certain they'll shoot many more next year too.
That's a risk and reward situation, as is much of life for the desparate.
Prostitution should be 'controlled' by registration and location, workers should be 'professionalised' (if such a word exsists) with medical checks and taxation. It may have the surprising result, that it (availability/demand) may decline simply because it's not illegal any more!
Drugs are different; in as much as that the 'hard' ones are at this time frequently used in an unbuffered form. Alcohol is absorbed throught the stomach and gut then processed by the liver, injected drugs hit the brain and heart directly, massively increasing the 'hit' or 'rush'. This is unlikely to change for the heavily addicted. However, it's what does the long term damage, and it's this we all pay for in medical services, which is why the smokers and drinkers pay their taxes. So...........we have an established principle from the government; quite how the ever image hungry poll chasing short termists, currently in power, would ever square that circle, is a mystery to me, and possibly to them too!

Come one everyone! Let's jump on the Joy Train to Amusement Park,Hell's Little Acres!
Both of these practices are detremental to your body, health,& those around you!
They are WRONG! But I am surprised the gov. even gives a rat's patootie about the ppl anymore!Oh,well! We know they will become legal soon! The way the world is spiraling downhill!

Well the answer there is look at Amsterdam- What is that country like? Has it worked out for them? I think it has personally. The reason why it has got out of hand in many countries is because there is money involved. Users will steal etc to feed their habbit. In the Netherlands there are alot of help for addicts too. The HIV rate is low too.

Prostitution is, in Oz. It works fine. (Not that I've tried it myself.)
Drugs, well... it is the obvious answer but no-one in authority would dare to admit it. Nevermind actually do it!

i think so!! get prostitutes in parlours & of the streets, safer for them & more respectful to the community. as for drugs people don't kill over beer & fags anymore because it's legal & easy to buy. so long as it's monitored right. it's up to you if you want to take them or not if your a grown up you can make your own decisions!! why not
