I always have wondered if computers really benefit student productivity.
This is without the use of the internet.

honestly I think they do both. I see kids getting their work finished buttttttt at the same time they tend to be distracted during whether chatting playing games, stay up later at night, and get kinda bitchy with a tude this is just what i have seen in many peepz. Some students work well on the computer and i actually think in this age and time they need computer, imagine if they didnt have them. but then again all elders did it. I think more positive than negative if i have to vote.

My brother has severe dyslexia and dysgraphia to the point where his handwriting resembles that of a five-year old (he is 37). When he was taking some remedial English classes his first year of college, a professor suggesting going into the library and try typing out his essays instead of just hand-writing them. The professor encouraged him to try one of the new word-processors the library had just set up for student use. When my brother started typing on the computer, a strange thing happened... he was able to write long, meaningful paragraphs with very little errors!

Years later, I had a student whose handwriting looked like some form of ancient dead dialect. I moved his seat so he was actually sitting at my student computer. I instructed him that whenever I give a writing assignment, I want him to write it on the computer. His papers at that point were easy to understand and give a grade to.

Is this true for everyone? Not necessarily. But for some people, doing things on computers has helped their productivity simply because it enables others to understand what you write, and it places quick editing tools at your fingertips.
