Some smaller private schools might accept you without an SAT or ACT, but the majority of universities and colleges require some sort of standardized exam result, because they have to be able to measure you somehow.

An advantage to taking the SAT or ACT in addition to having a GED is that IF a school looks at GEDs differently than high school diplomas, your attempt at the SAT may heighten their opinion of you.

I would strongly recommend taking the SAT if you plan on going to any kind of state university or city university, because it shows that you have attempted to qualify a reason to be admitted besides just finishing a GED. You can definitely call the admissions office at the school and ask them what their opinion is as well.

You should definitly take the SAT because many colleges require it for enterance. If you have a lot of activities under your belt that helps out a lot also. With a GED you should be able to get into a good state school though.

Because you just have a GED, an SAT or ACT score is absolutely necessary if you want to start at the Senior College level. If you want to start at a community college, your CC grades would count for transfer admission and you wouldn't need a test.

Congrats on your efforts!
