IE7 is so secure that you really only need IE7 if you are going to shop on line and use your credit card. Otherwise IE7 slows your system down to almost stop.
I tested all three beta version an installed and removed the final IE7 and reversed back to IE6, being I don't shop on line an the program is almost has heavy as Windows XP Pro.

I use it all the time and always seem to get the padlock icon. You may want to check and make sure that the site (where you are not getting the padlock) is truly a secure one.

On IE 6 the "Padlock" appeared on the information bar at the bottom.
On IE 7 the "Padlock" appears on the right end of the Address Bar after the down arrow.

Probably not any more secure than IE v 6. I personally like Mozilla, because IE is a breeding ground for spyware and malicious code due to all the ActiveX crap that Microsoft has thrown into the browser.

I get the padlock symbol and I am using IE7. Maybe you should run a virus scan on your computer to see if anything is blocking the secure sites or something?

IE 7 and Firefox are both we developed newer technology. They will both have issues and should both be updated on a regular basis to cover these issues.
Are you sure you are on a secure site?
if you visit: http://mail.yahoo.com you should get a lock, not every time you login to yahoo is it secure.
