Some people think the sentences are too harsh.

This story is just too sad. There's much more to it than 2 boys victimizing another boy. Yes, the parents should be held accountable for their lack of proper parenting. But to what extent?
The victims parents are suing the owners of the home where it happened.

I think it is justice. Apparently the victim was disrespectful to the attacker's sister but that was not warranted no matter what the situation. It was a hate crime without a doubt. The boy was a Nazi and he brutalized the victim all the while using racial slurs. I only wish that his parents could be held accountable in some way. They should have seen what type of gangs this boy was involved in. He had Nazi material plastered all over his bed room walls. It is a sad situation though. I blame the parents more than the boy because they should have had more control in his life. Furthermore the parents of the girl who's party it was, they were sleeping and did not know what was going on. They should have some accountability as well. You can't just let your teens run wild and do what they want. Parents are too busy trying to be friends with their children and give them their "privacy". Privacy is what you earn when you become an adult, get a job, have your own home, and pay the bills. It is a sad situation on both ends.

This was also a hate crime. If they have good behavior they won't do all of that time. Ask yourself what amount of time is sufficient if you were the raped or your son or daughter?
Too many of the inmates that reside in the state and federal system all started on the path that these youths have taken. Texas is predominantly Hispanic and these 2 youths while sodomizing this young man also kicked and shouted racial epitephs. It is a highly volatile and political position the judge was in. The judge may have given the lengthy sentence as a message. It may still be turned over on appeal and could possibly be lessoned. This was a crime they were caught for. It was awful bold. What else had they been doing before they got to this point. If they weren't stopped then what would the next thing be. They have been removed from society as is appropriate.

I think they deserve what was passed down by the judge and jury. There is never an excuse for aggrevated assault / sexual violence. It's sick and I hope they think about what they did every single day for the rest of their lives.....with regret. Maybe they will end up being better people, but; maybe they won't. Why would you want to risk letting them run the streets again?
