My husband just had surgery yesterday to repair his retina. The problem is we are to fly out next week(7 days) to disney world. We live in new york and its a 2 yr direct flight. His doctor advised him not to fly but we have planned this trip for months. Can any one please tell us what can happen if we decided to go?We really can't postpon the trip as we love going at chrismas time.Is it worth the chance or should we just cancel?

I would agree with your doctor. There is a bubble in his eye that is helping to keep the retina in place. If you fly the bubble changes and you may have to have the surgery again. Having the surgery again costs a lot more that rescheduling a trip. Also this can cause blindness and is strongly not recommended to fly. He also needs to keep his head still in order to keep the bubble in place. The 1st couple weeks are the most important for recovery.

i suspect the concern is the low pressure on the flight, most are pressurized to 5k feet, and the doc is concerned the repair may fail. Dont buy a dog and then do your own barking, if the man sez dont go I wouldnt.
