I just purchased a facial sauna that is supposed to steam open pores. My question is, should I steam before or after cleansing? Generally, my facial cleansing just consists of rinsing as much makeup off my face as I can with plain water and a soft cloth, then use a gentle cleansing facial wipe to remove the residue and that's all. On the evenings I choose to do a deeper cleansing with the sauna, should I use it before or after the cleansing cloth? Or should I do it first? I wonder if that would leave my pores at risk for makeup residue getting in them if I don't cleanse everything off first.

Use it before so your pores will be open when you scrub or exfoliate. then use cold water to rinse and close the pores up again to avoid dirt from air pollutants entering the skin.

I have a sauna in my house and I use it every single morning before I go to school. Let me tell you, it completely wakes up your skin and makes you look great (even on a poor night's sleep!) This is how you should take a sauna: 1. Take a quick shower making sure to remove all of your makeup and wash your body well (especially underarms because bacteria reproduces very fast in hot enviorment and thus you will be filled with bacteria if you don't wash yourself well) 2. Dry yourself very well (if you are wet, you won't last as long into the sauna and you'll just get too hot) 3. Bring a really cold waterbottle with you into the sauna (don't worry, this way you will sweat more "crap" out and be able to stay in there longer) 4. Stay in the sauna bout 15 minutes at a time (unless you have been taking them daily for 20 years) and work your way up from there. 5. After you take the sauna, get out, take a nice luxurious shower and wash yourself very well and as well as your face. 6. Right now is the best time to do mask on your face, back, chest, or wherever! Leave it on for about 20 minutes and remove! You don't need to cleanse again after the mask! 7. You actually can exfoliate if you don't have sensitive skin right after the sauna. It won't make irritate your skin at all (trust me, I have faired skin and I love to exfoliate right after a sauna so that all the dead skin cells are removed WAY easier than if I hadn't taken one.) Also, you can shave in the sauna because you will get a super close shave!

What I would do is use a basic make up cleanser to take off the entire make up residue, and then use the facial sauna to open up all your pours it should only take a few minutes. After that I would use a special cleanser that clears out black heads and closes up your pours so that after black heads can't form. I recommend a masque that dries and you can just peal off - St. Ives makes lots of really nice products for this.

Steam, Cleanse, Tone, (Mask if needed) Moisturize.

You need to open your pores to make them more receptive to the cleanser.. Once cleansed you will close the pores with your toner to trap the good stuff in.

That's what we do in the spa! Give it a try.

I usually clean me face first other wise you will notice the make up build up around the top of the sauna where you put your face in and after you use the sauna put on a light face cream
