The war in Iraq is a "pure failure" that has left Iraqis in a worse state than when they lived under Saddam Hussein, former United Nations chief weapons inspector Hans Blix said in comments published Wednesday.
"Iraq is a pure failure," Blix was quoted as saying in the Danish newspaper Politiken.
"If the Americans pull out, there is a risk that they will leave a country in civil war. At the same time it doesn't seem that the United States can help to stabilize the situation by staying there."
Blix, in comments that were seen as unusually critical for the diplomat, said the U.S. is facing a situation where neither staying to fight nor pulling its troops out of Iraq are good decisions.
Blix said Iraq would have been better off if the war had not happened.
"Saddam would still have been sitting in office. OK, that is negative and it would not have been joyful for the Iraqi people. But what we have gotten is undoubtedly worse," he was quoted as saying.
Blix was in charge of a team of UN inspectors who looked for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq before the U.S. and its allies invaded the country in 2003. He had asked for more time to allow the weapons inspectors to do their work, but was criticized by Washington for his request.
After his team left Iraq, a coalition of forces led by the U.S. invaded the country. The U.S. and British military forces found no weapons of mass destruction.
Violence in the country is escalating, meanwhile, with Iraqi civilians, government officials, police officers and often U.S. soldiers killed every day. Bodies are frequently found in Baghdad, bound and tortured. Bombings are common.
Estimates of the death toll from the Iraqi war range wildly.
According to Iraq Body Count, a website that tracks reported deaths of Iraqi civilians from previously published sources, an estimated 44,000 to 50,000 Iraqis have died in the war.
But a study published recently in the British medical journal The Lancet estimated that 655,000 Iraqis have died since the invasion began, most of them as a direct result of violence.

Yeah, we'll let Saddam invade his neighbors and control 1/3 of the world's oil. Then, he'll make sure your heating bills are $1000 a month, and your gasoline $10 a gallon.
In the meanwhile, Saddam will kill another 100,000 Iraqis, not to mention the people who die in more Saddam wars.
All so you can prove that Bush is / was an idot.
Whatever happened to anti-war protesters having "teach ins" so they would be able to talk INTELLIGENTLY about the issues??? Or, do facts really matter to this generation of anti-war idiots? At least the 1960's crowd had cool music....

I agree that G Bush is not good for Iraq. But Saddam to come back?! Are you mad? As much as the Iraqi people despise the U.S being in their country, the majority are thankful that the tyrant and dictator Saddam Hussein is no longer in control. He butchered and tortured his own people. Do you really think the people would want that back?
What Iraq needs is stability and the chance to look after and govern their own country within a fair and just regime.

You have said it all in your question.yes i would love to see saddam back sorting all the mess the 2 B have caused.
they have distroyed a whole country and distroyed home's.
where is this nuclear boom no sighn of it as yet and the whole country has been raped and killed over some thing that did not exist in the first place.
we are all beeing lyed to over and over again.
saddam had a better brain then bush.
saddam at least knew how to address his nation and the people in the press.he has a class to his self respect.
bush can't even speak or make sence of what he is trying to tell us.
tell bush to take saddam's place he would look good in the dock in place of saddam.no one would fight his case or want to defend him.
wish we all could give peace a chance.

It was never that bad under Saddam? No, there wasn't a civil war, but people were terrified. Rape rooms, shredders for human beings, mass graves....
Look at how many Iraqi's risked their lives to vote - millions! How many people voted under Saddam?
If you want to call Bush a terrorist, whatever - you are certainly entitled to your opinion. But to call the man a murderer is total BS. Was Lincoln a murderer? Kennedy? Is any leader who presides over a war a terrorist in your mind?

I hope that this question was asked to stir debate... ANY thought of bringing back a lunatic to replace an imbecile is ridiculous. I wouldn't trust George W. to deliver my morning paper, let alone run a country-which the US has done TWICE-but I wouldn't trust Saddam with anything-including personal hygiene... Anti-American rhetoric happens when the US, either individually or as a collective, acts as if they're entitled to what they have. NObody is entitled, we earn it.

No to bringing back Saddam. Unfortunately they hate each other as much as they hate Bush, Blair and us.

What you want rape and torture to continue....you like that kind of stuff...then by all means take your dumb *** over there and live with it. I support George Bush...not a damn thing would have been done about 9/11 if Gore were to be elected.
I support our troops and they are not over there for no reason...they are there fighting and dying for our right to say stupid sh*t like this!!!

If you truly believe this, then it doesn't make sense. Asking one murderer to take over for another murderer?
Maybe you should start working for Saddam. Let's see how many "opinions" you are allowed to get away with.
