Well, since I work in radio and cut commercials on a daily basis, I know what a problem this can be. Hot water with lemon or honey-lemon Hall's cough drops can work temporary wonders. Use in the hour before your audition.AVOID ANY AND ALL DAIRY. It might help at your audition if you have some taped material that you can bring with you. Keep in mind though, that using your "broadcast" voice WILL strain it and make it worse for a day or so. Good luck-and I understand

Tea & Honey, or lots of water. Don't eat/drink anything dairy. No gum either. Speak as little as possible, though you should do some warm ups before hand. Depending on what you're auditioning for, if you can't get rid of a scratchy voice, incorporate it into your character. If you're singing, just do your best. I'm sure they'll be able to recognize if you know what you're doing, only your obviously have a cold. Break a leg!

It may be a bit late, and after your audition...but zinc works wonders. ZICAM is amazing, I was sick for my last audition, and popped these tablets every hr before and I sounded as healthy as ever. It doesn't clear it up for good, but it's healthy so long as you only pop these for a few days in such a quantity.

I know several people who use "Singer's Saving Grace"
They say it tastes terrible but it works. It is a spray.
