Ok. I've been mentoring a 12 year old girl since she was 4. Her older sister was a straight A student in 8th grade and is currently a high school drop out with a 16 month old baby. Her mom just moved again. She's currently staying with her (other) sister's friend so she doesn't have to change schools twice in less than a year. (she attends a K-6 elementary school). I've put it on the table, cleared it with the school district, and discussed with her mom that maybe she should stay with us during the week and attend the 6-8 middle school by our house so she only has to change schools once (not sure how long this arrangement with the sister's friend is going to last) my husband thinks we should wait until the end of the school year if we're going to take her, or wait for a real "Crisis." She's already a year behind in school (2 years in 2nd grade) and her best chance of graduating high school is in a different household. Thoughts? Oppinions? Suggestions?

Oh, I'd want it to be a 5 1/2 year commitment on everyone's part if we were to do this. She is the 5th child in a single parent household of 6 kids, and #4, who's been living with an uncle since he was about 10, is the first one on track to graduate highschool. He's in 10th grade now.

God sends us to those who needs us so you have been sent keep your house in order because your husband is a part of you but it seems you have answered your own question more kids need people to love them and help them and if we drop the ball where God sends us than that might have been the next president the next Governor the next some one to help another child not to fail I been hear my mom was the same if you can do then do if you cant then pray for the next person that can. Let God bless you not the world and if you follow your heart you will have a child that will love you for life hope it helps

If all goes well, take her. This is a very fragile age because kids at 13-14 mock other kids. They are crying out for attention and its almost the last hope to help her stay on the right track. If you dont help her now, she will have problems in the future. Do what can now! Before other teens direct her future.

Twelve-year-olds can't really get any job at a work place especially where animals are concerned. With animals you must be at least 18 because the people will be held liable if you are bitten. I tried to volunteer at a shelter when I was 17 but was not able to because of the liability. Even pet stores require you to be 18. I know its frustrating but check into your local zoo because sometimes they have camps or volunteer programs for teens. Good Luck.

Take her in I would. If her mom realizes that it is best for her. Congratulations for stepping up in a child's life and making a difference not everyone would do that. It sounds like the child needs some direction in her life and you are willing to give that to her. I hope everything works out for you and your situation, the best of luck to you guys.

Wow. This is a tough one. No more waiting, this is already a crisis... just not so obvious to the outside world.
