WinXP, Click on START --> SETTINGS --> CONTROL PANEL --> SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICE. make sure ur mic is detected and selected. Then, click on a small speaker icon on you windows,at the bottom right (next to your clock). when your cursor pointed to it,it says "Volume",double click on it. and uncheck the box under the "microphone" or raise the level.. :D

Ok, these might seem obvious, but I've done them all at some point.

Firstly, most obviously, is it turned on? Next, DOUBLE click the volume control on the start menu, or go to start/programs/accessories/ entertainment/volume control. Then click options/properties, scroll down the list and check that microphone is checked and click OK. Then make sure your microphone is turned up on the slider, and the mute box isn't checked. If both of these are the case then click the advanced tab and check the mic boost box.

If it STILL isn't working, then maybe you have a problem with your soundcard or the program you're trying to use.

Have you checked to make sure that the mic is plugged in the right connector? If you have then it could be as simple as the volume controls. In your control panel there's a little speaker icon, you should find the volume control in there. Normally the mic will show as muted with the volume set about half way, this is normal. One way to test your mic is to run either yahoo or msn messenger's 'audio wizard.
