However, this is technically incorrect, as pounds are a unit of weight and kilograms are a unit of mass. The conversion factor works only when the mass is subject to the acceration due to gravity on the earth. That same kilogram weighs less on the moon, but more on Jupiter. The actual unit of weight in the metric system is "newtons".
