It's a complicated question. Since you can study a whole course about cell-cell interaction or communication in college. To explain it in a few words is insufficient. However I'll try.

There are billion and trillion cells in our body. They work collaborately with each other rather than independently.

In order for the cell to work together, they must interact or communicate with each other by sending or receiving signals.

Signals can be chemical or electrical signals.

There are different types of cell signalling such as direct contact, paracrine signaling, endocrine signaling, synaptic signaling.

In order to receive signals, cells must have specific receptors that can recognize specific signals.

All these processes happen simultaneously, dynamically, and quickly.

The cells communicate witheach other through some signals which are emmiting from some external source. The cell nearest to the stimulance produces some signal like ATP and ADP targeting molecules which alter the external receptors on other cells. And this chain reaction will continue till saturation or elimation of the external source.
