The term you quote cannot be manipulated any further.
Algebraically all terms are written :-
additions are always written as A + B
Subtractions are always written as A - B
Multiplications of A x B is written as AB
Division are always written as A/B
So your '4a' term means 4 x a
and your '3b' term means 3 x b
and as 4a + 3b is an addition it is written as '4a + 3b' and cannot be manipulated further.
Philosophically algebra is mathematical shorthand, you do the calculation once and only substitute Numbers in when the calculation cannot be algebraically manipulated any further.

It is a trick question. Your question is your answer. You can not add 4a and 3b because they both are not "like terms". You can only add an "a" to an "a" or a "b" to a "b". If you know what "a" = or "b" =, then you would be able to solve the question.
Answer is= 4a + 3b.
Good Luck!!

4a + 3b cannot be added or simplified.
e.g. 4 apples + 3 bananas is still 4 apples and 3 bananas.
However, if you have 4a + 3a, the answer would be 7a.
e.g. 4 apples + 3 apples = 7 apples.

I think you just leave it as 4a + 3b, unless the question is 4a x 3b. Then the answer would be 12ab, but you can't simplify the answer.

4a + 3b is irreducible. You cannot simplify that expression any further, because it contains two unlike terms. So the answer would just be "4a + 3b".

a and b or any letter is in place of a number. So 4a could be 4x2 + 3x3. That's it.
Look at this one.
7 x a = 56
so a= 8
Hope this helps

1st you need to know the value of each letter.
Example:
Evaluate the expression 4 × z + 12 =? (when z = 15.)
replace each occurrence of z with the number 15, and simplify using the usual rules: parentheses first, then exponents, multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction.
4 × z + 12 becomes
4 × 15 + 12 =
60 + 12 =
72
hope this helps......

To work out what a and b are, you need more info. You need what the equation equals, and possibly another equation with a and b in it.
