Anyone else get the creeps (not from the country & politics) but from the "messages" of the television show itself, which was a strange and fuzzy mish-mash of information about North Korea.
It seemed the program was telling us that the North Koreans were living in the ultimate patriarchal existence, enjoying every minute of it, and because they were so happy, that the only thing making the rest of us miserable(and especially the "unhappy" mob of citizens in the U.S., for example) is that we don't have a father-figure deciding every aspect of our lives. The show admits the N. Korean "head" isn't doing all this, but the "perfect illusion" that he's making all the decisions is all people need. Since the North Koreans seemed happier than people in other countries, this "happy" feature was being sold by Diane Sawyer as all that mattered.

I've been thinking about that show for a few days-- the N Koreans are not in touch w the larger world even in the way that the Cubans are!
The N. Koreans have been brainwashed by a Father-Son Dictating Duo- that amounts to , what- 4 or 5 generations of Brainwashed N Koreans.
You know something, tho (?)-- nobody was outright miserable, whiny, petulant and selfish. Maybe they were afraid to be themselves? Or were their needs met?
Here we are in a society where everybody never has enough, they never have it good enough-- they want and want and want.
What's worse-- to want what you can't have or to be happy with what you've got?
Cause if you think you're gonna be the next big rock star, get a job. If you think you're gonna be the next mega buck sports star, get real.
In any case, it seemed like the N Koreans had less touch w the world than even Castro's Cubans. Their society was eerily robotic. But here's the rub-- their society prevents them from being Slobbering At The Mouth Consumers like we are-- and all of conventional western society.
Our form of brainwashing is advertising-- we are brainwashed to have consuming desire.

Remember, we are talking about a Marixist state. The former USSR had the same exact message to their folks.

N Korean's are in bad shape, the military are the ones getting most of the food the rest of the population gets the scraps.

Check out the pyongyang times to see what the N Korean's media is like.

Yeah, because starving doesn't matter as long as you are happy, right?

What to get even further wierded out? Check out the book, "Burning All Illusions: A Guide to Personal and Political Freedom" by David Edwards.

I didn't see the program, but if it was as you've described then it's like the book 1984, where people in the society believed (or at least pretended to believe) that "ignorance is bliss."

No matter what she's talking about, Diane Sawyer ALWAYS gives weird vibes.

She does give off weird vibes....I don't trust the media anymore. They all give off strange messages that are subtle, but strong if you care to really listen.
