She's 30 years old and hasn't lost all of the weight she gained from being pregnant. Her taste in clothing, accessories, makeup, shoes, etc. is tacky, too young for her age, and miscoordinated. Id really like to buy something that makes her look more classy and in tune with her actual age, something she would never buy.

I totally understand where you are coming from, however Christmas is not the time to push your opinion on her.

For now, buy her something she will enjoy-even if you think it is tacky and miscoordinated. That way she will enjoy the gift rather than it sitting in her closet.

Then later, go shopping with her and ask her to try on somethings you find more appropriate then offer to buy her one thing that you both like. Then be sure to compliment her everytime she wears it. Then little by little you can influence her. Changing people is tough to do, but if you must do it-Christmas isn't the time!

When I was like 13 or 14 and into the grunge scene my grandfather bought me Tiffany's book of manners and ettiquite for young girls. I was sooo mad, lol. I still have it, and enjoy it now but at the time it was totally unapproriate.

Goodluck! (I'm not knagging you, just trying to prepare you for your sisters reaction, and trying to help you change her )

A subtle hint might be to give her a gift certificate to somewhere like the Eddie Bauer, Land's End, or L.L. Bean. They all sell casual but classy looking clothing. That way YOU arent picking what she gets, but you're still getting across the underlying message that her style needs to "grow up" a little bit.

I see what other people are writing about stores they recommend - I think if you gave a gift certificate to a department store, she will still be able to pick out anything she wants - the sky's the limit... and that might include the tacky stuff. If you pick a place that doesn't sell tacky stuff, her choices will be limited.

You should steer away from clothes unless you know it is something she would like or will fit her. If you buy her something you like but does not fit her style, or her size, then she will either return it or it will disappear into her closet, never to be seen again.

One thought is to see if a store in your area offers a 'fashion consultant', or something similar. Perhaps you can pay for her to have a session with the consultant. Then it isn't you who is telling her she needs to try different a different look. Hopefully, the consultant will show her looks and styles that are more appropriate and she will see how much better she looks.

I once read in the newspaper that the spirit of Christmas is very commercialized now. People buy xmas gifts cose of discount, promotions or just to get something to give to someone.

However, the true xmas spirit is giving that person what he/ she wants. Isn't that the best gift of all? Since she is your sister, I'm sure you should know what she likes if not just go shopping with her to sound her out.

get her a gift certificate to Express or The Limited. It's a little more upscale and would be age appropriate. It would give her the opportunity to change her wardrobe and get herself some clothes that fit properly.

if that sounds too expensive, i would go with jewelry. go to one of those stories and pick accessories that she can mix and match with whatever outfits she already has.

well you wouldn't want to buy her any kind of clothes that you know she would not wear! so I'd go with a gift card to a classy store, that way she can pick out what she wants, if not go for the usual bath and body gift set! good luck!

I see where you're coming from, but 30 isn't old, lol. And, if you buy her something that isn't her, most likely you just wasted your money, and she won't wear it. You could get her a jacket, cute purse, jewelry, lotions and candles, etc. Just get something that is in style, still looks young, but not too young and is nice but you know she'll wear. If not, buy her a DVD or something lol

Why change her? I consider myself to have great taste in clothing and shoes, etc. But would never step on anyones toes to tell them that they would look better if they_____. You know what I mean? Buy her a massage, with kids, trust me she wants one. Good luck!
