In terms of reputation -- the two schools are similar. Both schools are selective, but not top tier. In terms of reputation, there is nothing that separates them -- so you should look at other factors.

East Carolina is a larger school -- there are advantages and disadvantages to this. One advantage is that they offer more courses. Another is that the social life might be better.

Marshall has less of an emphasis on graduate programs, so you may have professors pay more attention to you there.

If you like the mountains, Marshall will be for you. East Carolina is closer to the ocean -- so if you like the beaches, then it is a good choice.

Unless you are from West Virginia, you probably don't want to get a job there when you graduate. How will a Marshall degree help you get a job elsewhere? The new movie about Marshall will increase the public's awareness of the school -- which could be good. Will it be enough?

North Carolina, on the other hand, is a place where you might want to settle. Being at a local school could help in the job search.

Finally think about fashion. How do you feel about green and white (Marshall). For me that is not a negative. Now -- how do you feel about purple and gold. My feeling is that you should always avoid going to a school where the school colors are purple, maroon or orange.

Whichever college suits you the best...

Do you like the city or country? Where would you want your college to be located?
Does the college have activities you like that you can participate in, if you are willing to participate?
Does the college have majors that interest you?
Are the students and staff at the college you're interested in, nice and considerate?
If you went to this college, how would you benefit?

Ask yourself these questions...

Good luck!

Michelle
