I have a sony vaio notebook, model #PCG-V505B. I first changed the setting to boot from CD rom. The CD rom read the recovery start up disc OK. Then asked to insert disc1 now the CD rom won't read the disc at all. It kept asking to insert disc 1. So then I hit F2 to boot from hard disk. The message appears saying no operating system. Is there any solution to try to recover window XP operating system? Please help. Thanks.

Dang, that sounds fun.

It might have begun the re-installation process and remove some of the boot information.

There are ways to get things stored on the computer off, but doing a clean install (reformatting and reinstalling XP) isn't anything bad or anything to be afraid of.

Think of it as giving the hard drive a shower.

You could try to fix the master boot record, but I think you screwed yourself... I think the syntax is fixmbr in the CLI.
