At this stage the baby could be moving quite a bit for you to get a good look. It all depends if s/he is developed and the person doing the sonogram. It is a possibility(a good one) that you will find out the sex. The hospital that I am going to right now only does 2-3 routine sonograms and I have already had my first at 12 weeks. They do not perform the second one until my 24 week mark. I wish they did one sooner. The waiting is awful. And if you don't find it out today, I am sure you will within the next 4 weeks.
Good Luck.

I wanted to know... and when it came time to check between the legs... the baby's legs were crossed. The ultrasound technician got me to jump and wiggle around trying to get the baby to shift.

So she was a surprise. Some people say to wait for the surprise... but really... it's still a surprise at 20 weeks.

I just had my 20 week ultrasound yesterday. I got to find out what I was having. My little baby was all over the place. It was really neat and a wonderful experience. :)

Absolutesy and it made me SSSOOOOOO mad!!! It was my second pregnancy. I already had a boy, and with him I was not allowed to find out the sex bc my doctor only gave me one ultrasound at 12 weeks. Way too early. I got a 20 week ultrasound with my second child and they couldnt tell me because he wouldnt stay still! LOL. We ended up with a beautiful boy born 10/12/06! Good Luck, I hope you get to find out and congrats on the new little one!

My first child didn't want me to know, I think I had three ultra sounds and always was in the wrong postion. I knew she was a girl though, the other two I found out at my 20 week ultrasound.

With my first child, she would not cooperate, she kept her hands in front of her. I didn't find out that she was a girl until I was 30 weeks.
My 2nd was difficult in the beginning, but showed herself right at the end.
On Wednesday I go to see what my 3rd child is, we are hoping for a boy.
Good luck and don't get upset if you don't find out. It all depends on the baby's mood and movement.

If they can get a good look than this is the time everyone finds out. If the baby's legs are up or the umbilical cord is in the way they may not be able to get a good look. Good Luck!

Yep! I was 22 weeks and wanted to know so bad it was killing me! BUT my stubborn little princess had her back facing out and her legs crossed. They tried everything from moving me around on my sides, stimulating her (with the buzzer thing), even drinking a cold soda to get her to move....NOPE! She stayed put! It happens! My friend couldn't find out either because her daughter had her legs crossed too. Good Luck though!!

I hope this one goes better in a couple weeks now!

Here's how to "Almost" ensure the baby will cooperate...drink lots of fruit juice! It gets the baby moving a lot...reducing the chances that his/her legs will be crossed! I also know a friend of mine had some Mt. Dew (lots of sugar!) and it worked for her as well. Good luck!
