There's a local guy in Portland OR named Curtis Salgado. He is positively the greatest. When Dan Akroyd and John Belushi were shooting Animal House in Eugene OR they saw him and used his act act as the basis for The Blues Brothers movie. Curtis started in a band with Robert Cray, who also very good.

Robert Johnson if you're looking for something really classic. I also like Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker for something a little more recent.
