Definitely, if you have a real interest in playing and stick with it, it will be one thing that no-one else can do for you or exactly like you. It's a real challenge and gives you a great sense of accomplishment.

guitar lessons will likely save you a lot of time and effort going down "wrong roads" that you will go down learning on your own. on the other hand, you will be confined to the instructor's style and preferences and this may limit your enjoyment and creativity as you learn. if you teach yourself, you can explore whatever interests you and let the rest go, you can develop your own style, but then again, you will be stumbling in the dark at times. so figure out the learning style that suits you best, and go with that. if you take lessons, don't be afraid to switch instructors to find one that best suits you and your style.

i have played guitar for 26 years and have taught lessons for 15 years. i taught myself and wouldn't trade that journey for anything but i recognize i would have saved myself some time having someone show me the way. teaching myself made me a better instructor because i could appreciate every pitfall and hurdle my students face, and then some. a quote that might interest you, paraphrased, i saw recently from musician alfred brendel: "being entirely self-taught, i learned to distrust anything that i hadn't discovered for myself." good luck!

That's for u to decide!. I mean just because u are not in a band doesn't mean u can learn how to play guitar.

if you really want to learn... sure. I learned how to play just for enjoyment. really helps if you know someone who is willing to show you a few cords with out having to pay for lessons.

My daughter wants to take lessons and she already plays piano. She finds it therapeutic and relaxing....So if that helps you too, why not.
