I was breastfeeding for the 1st weeks of my baby girl's life, but have now went back to work and have had to supplement formula as well as breastfeeding at night and trying to pump during the day at work. My mother in law watches her during the day and feeds her Goodstart w/Iron DHA ARA. I tried her on Enfamil w/Iron at first, but she would just scream and scream it seemed like in pain. Then her pediatrician put her on Enfamil for fussiness and gas and my baby would not take that. As of Thanksgiving, I tried Goodstart because I heard of the comfort proteins in it that make it easier on babies tummies because it has already broke down the proteins. Well, everyday, around 3p.m., she goes into a screaming fit for about an hour. My mother in law thinks it's because of the Iron in the formula. She thinks that because she drinks the formula all day, it is too hard on her tummy by mid-day. Any formula's out there w/no iron or low iron? Did you run into this problem w/belly aches from iron?

My daughter did the same thing, and we thought it was iron. Every single night at around 11 she would scream and scream for anywhere from a hour to 2. Nothing would calm her down. Then we switched her to Isomil from similac. Its a soy formula. And after about 2 days the crying got less and less, and eventually it stopped. Maybe you should try that. I also know a couple of other people who had the same problem, and switched to isomil and it helped with them as well. Also try giving her the gas drops that they sell and see if that helps. I hope everything works out ok. I know how hard it is to deal with a baby who just wont stop crying.

You've already tried switching formulas so try getting your baby back onto only breastmilk. Take this weekend and spend it in bed or on the sofa drinking lots of healthy liquids and nursing your baby and using the breast pump A LOT. Be either nursing the baby or using the pump every two hours.
The increased demand will cause your body to make more milk and make it easier to build up a supply of milk to store for your mother in law and get more when you pump at work each day.
Check with a breastfeeding consultant for other ways to increase your supply as well. Maternity wards most always have one on staff and if you delivered there the consultation may be free. Pediatrician's are often completely useless when it comes to breastfeeding and formula issues. It's just not their speciality.
BTW, generally babies do not need iron until they are 6mths old, and usually not even then if they are eating solids.

I had this problem with my daughter. Have you thought about that she may have colic? I had put my daughter on Nestle NAN - it's really awesome! It's close to breast milk and my daughter has not had any problems.
Colic often happens around the same time every day. I have also heard that Iron does upset babies tum-tums. So why would doctors say that babies need extra iron when it actually hurts them instead?
I would try a different formula - it may take a week for the baby to get used to it - but it would make all the difference. I would also try to give the baby some gas drops like mylicon a little before 3 pm. Since you said that's when she starts crying.
Good luck!!

I started my baby out on Good Start Supreme, thinking the 'comfort proteins' were a good thing. When she was little she had a bowel movement every two days, and it just was right... kind of a grey clay. At three months I switched her to an inexpensive formula (with the DHA/ARA) and things are better.
There are iron-free formulas... they're hard to find with DHA/ARA
I didn't have a problem with gas... but definately with the Good Start.
Good Luck

Iron can cause constipations and tummy troubles. I think that formula with iron even if it is in a dose for baby will still cause tummy aches. There are drops that you can add to the formula as well to help with gas, that can also cause tummy aches.
I wish I knew what was out there atm but I do know there are formulas that are made to be easy on babies tummy.
I breast fed but my friend has one that was recommended by her pediatrician. I would say talk to your doctor or even a pharmacist that you know really well.

Iron causes constipation. There are formulas without it.
Although, it sounds to me as though every formula you have tried has resulted in her crying.
She has colic, and its quite possible that this is due to her not tolerating the milk based formula. You can try with low or no iron formula and see if that helps, but yoru doctor would probably have you try a soy base formula and see if that helps.

My son had none of that. I'd go to the doc again. Talk to him about using a formula without iron for a certain period of time. Bad thing is babies need the iron.

My son replaced into an identical way. My medical professional informed me that if he's the single rolling himself over to not complication approximately it. He hated swaddling too, has consistently enjoyed his freedom besides... If she's stable sufficient to roll over like that there isn't plenty you're able to do. If something a snooze positioner may well be extra of a suffocation threat than letting her roll over. basically confirm that there isn't something in her crib yet her, and that she has room to roll and scoot without pushing her face against a wall of the crib or something... My chum's son has acid reflux illness fairly undesirable and could in undemanding terms sleep on his abdomen. back drowsing is maximum secure, yet while for some babies it basically does not artwork... once you're fairly apprehensive refer to her medical professional. that's what they're there for. BTW i think of that they often start up rolling at approximately 3-4 months, so she's particularly stable it looks like!!

This happened to my son. I switched to soy formula (just as much nutritional value as regular formula) and added gas drops as well...He was feeling better in a couple days.
Hope that helps!
