Buy an inexpensive metronome or drumbeat machine that has variable speeds. Set the metronome or drumbeat machine very slow. Practice strumming to this beat. Even if it's so slow it seems easy, strum with the beat. When you feel very comfortable at this speed, set the tempo just slightly faster and repeat.

Remember to keep your hand relaxed--don't hold your pick (if you're using one) like you could break it. Or if you're strumming with your thumb, use enough strength to strum the strings, but not so much you get carpal tunnel.

The faster you go, the lighter you need to strum. Keep at it, practice regularly, and you'll be happy with the results. Good luck!

Relax, this is normal for beginners. Try using a metronome to help you keep time. Tempo is extremely important is music.
A good tip is to forget about playing at the "right speed."
Play as slow as you have to to keep the rhythm in time and to give yourself time to make smooth chord changes. Don't speed up even you some changes are easier than others. Only increase your speed when you can make all the changes in the same tempo. Good luck. Have fun.

tap your feet. i do it out of habit, but if for some reason im not tapping my feet, i get a little off. also, the more you play riffs, the more automated they become. it just takes practice, its complicated, because your brain has to distinguish between what both your arms and hands are trying to do. if i can't seem to get a rythm down, play it play it play it, until it becomes automatic. you eventually get to the point where you don't have to consciously think about where your hands are landing and to think about it while you're doing it makes you screw up. make sure you are strumming with your wrist and not your arm as well.

i ran into that problem when i started when i was trying to sing and play simultaneously. pick an easy song, and sing along with the chords. you'll pick it up.

i play guitar too, but i'm not an pro, i did learn on my own and you just need to practice on the chords, but dont over-pratice...
guitar can be easy to play, you can search for some chords of your favorite band or music on the net, and pratice on them

from my personal experience, it's how i started off, not everyone starts like this, everyone pretty much has his/her way of learning, but give it a try, it may work...

Maybe try getting a metronome so you don't have to think about the beat so much. You'll get it eventually with practice.

that be easy. you just have no sense of rhythm or timing. you just need to quit playing music and take up another hobby that's all
