i tryed to sign up and it asked me for my cell num and said they would text me a code. what exactly is it anyways? i noticed lots of ppl have it so i wanted to see what it is all about.

It's googles e-mail service. Currently there are only two ways to become a member, you either have to have a cell phone and have them text you a code, or you have to have a current member invite you. I think its so they can reduce the number of members.

I signed up a couple years ago, but I have never heard of them sending you a code. It might be a new thing though. I know you can access Gmail through your phone.

i have no idea why it said that. gmail is from google. a free email service like yahoo and hotmail. i signed up without using a cell phone... if you can give me your email address i have tons of invites i can send. so i can send you an invite. that wil get you in.

No. You don't need a cellphone. Depending on your phone, you can have the ability to access gmail from it.
