Well your would be sound like someone like myself. When my girlfriend of 2 years is on the phone with me and I have to go or end the convo I just say bye and that would be it. She gets mad and say's "that's it". As a guy I don't see why the goodbye needs to be stretched out.
I realize that it seems like we are then too eager to get off the phone, but really why stay on the phone. Guy rarely have much to say unless there was some event that happened which would give a topic of discussion. My girlfriend is used to that aspect of me now but before it was an issue. It's not like we are eager to get off the phone but unlike our female counterparts we don't make anything of it.
If it really bothers you I would suggest just saying something. But don't make too big a deal about it because he might take a step back since I am sure you will just seem like you are making a big deal about nothing.

At least your wouldbe is polite enough to wait until you say bye. Your wouldbe is probably bored or not interested in the subjects you talk about. Try to get Wouldbe to talk about himself. Ask him questions. Make him want to engage in conversation.
If your unsatisfactory conversation leaves you feeling angry then say what you feel the next time you speak with your wouldbe. What have you got to lose? A bore? Some anger? Some precious time you could spend with someone else who may be interestred in what you have to say? Stop feeling guilty it takes too much energy.

Yes I understand how you feel, I think there are two different types of people. The ones that like to always be talking to there would be lover and like the long goodbye and ones that are colder and are happier with just minimal contact. I hate those kinds. Maybe you should reconsider if he is right for you.

This sounds more like a Singles & Dating question, than about Health.

...and I'm not quite sure what you mean, your question is buried in the body of your post "why is this happening?" My advice would be, ask him.

Men sometimes don't think about these things. You might be worrying about nothing. But if it is annoying you, just ask him.
