i was thinking about writing a program that uses the NFL stats in real time. is there someway i can get that information or export it to my own database.

This may not be a whole lot of help, but I track a lot of football games online while they are being played, and I have yet to see one that displays stats in a format that would be usably converted to a database. The best I could suggest is to use a game tracker (for instance ESPN or Yahoo! Sports) and manually update; you would have to limit to the important stats that these game trackers follow, such as passing and leading rushers/recievers; it's not as bad as it sounds, I don't think.
