I dropped it off at 10am and I'm just wondering how long it generally takes before the diagnosis is complete (assuming they start on it right away- which is unlikely). I'm trying to figure out why it's jerking/ shaking and my RPM meter fluctuates when I'm at a stop and is worse when the heat is on. It actually shut off this morning! (hit adeer, but cosmetic damage is fixed) Also, what are the pros/ cons of a diagnostic test? I'm being charged $93 for the test, does that sound ok?

If there is no lights on the dash then the car is not doing what they call "throwing a code" Where they simply plug in a cumputer to the car, get the code and look in a book to see what the problem is. If they were busy expect to wait at least an hour before they look at your car. Especially if you drop it off, then they are not in a rush.

$93 is ridiculous, just email me next time with symptoms. You need to find yourself a trustworthy repair guy and get him to do it for free.

Secondly the hesitation and fluctuation could be a few small things. New spark plugs, tightening of the throttle cable, new air filter, some fuel system cleaner and a Throttle Body cleaning which if all done by yourself would cost maybe, maybe $50 in parts if your lucky.

sure you could visit the BBB and they tell the storage there's a grievance about them and when they answer it it is going pooff so a ways because the grievance is going. you could attempt small claims courtroom. even with the truth that i no longer constructive you could win. diagnostics don't have any thanks to pin element a right concern. it ought to assert hey theres a topic and it as a lot because the mechanic to ascertain what his best wager will be. in case you stated about returning the battery He probable would imagine it became the alternator using the indisputable fact that what costs the battery and they do go undesirable. Then in case you presented it back he ought to imagine hmm I put in a alternator it must be some thing else. perchance the solenoid or the ignition swap. this is demanding to inform. and for the reason that human beings purchase rebuilt alternators because new ones are fairly intense priced. So it ought to were a nasty alternator. this is demanding to assert if he became at fault or only did not opt to imagine it became some thing else. So i do not understand how the courts would see that. yet you could attempt the small claims courtroom root for type of 60 -80.00 in case you do it your self. You visit the courthouse files and they could commonly get you began. And sure you could report with the BBB i do not understand. i imagine now and again it really is going to be a lesson and under no circumstances go back there back. And cut back losses it fairly as a lot as you dave P.S. you'll have a criminal specialist write a letter soliciting for partial refund yet i do not see it operating byess and sorry that befell

It doesn't take long at all - 30 minutes at the most. If it takes longer it's because they didn't start on it right away. I had a similar problem during the summer and my test was $88. But that was okay because the problems were covered by my warranty. Hopefully you have one too!

$93 is a good price.
They don't just plug in a computer and rea the codes.
They have to go thru a series of operational tests with key on, key off, engine running, idle, in gear, in neutral, at various engine speeds, A\C on, A\C off, Heater on, heater off...yada-yada.

From start to finish, Hooking it up, running the tests, disconnecting it, doing the paperwork ..About an hour.

$93 is quite reasonable.

As for how long it will take - anywhere from 5 minutes to several days depending on the problem, and I say that in all seriousness.

Well, If they actually get to it it wont take more than 15 minutes. Yes 93.00 is ok. Kinda high but where I live it can cost like 20.00-90.00...Depending on how hard it is to hook it up to your car and how much they have to hook up to it.
