I assume you are referring to a winning one. Grant took Fort Henry and attacked Fort Donelson. When the Confederate commander asked for terms, Grant replied, "No terms except an unconditional and immediate surrender can be accepted". He then took Vicksburg and while almost beaten at Shiloh managed to stay afloat. When press to fire him Lincoln said "I can't spare this man--he fights". So he got him by luck, Grant was not a planner he just put in man after man until we were beat!
