It's like meeting the man of your dreams....and then meeting his beautiful wife..."
LOve that part!
That would just plain suck. That's not ironic, that's life for some people! Most of the song is about how life hands you wonderful things, then puts rotten things in your path to knock you down.
I still like that song after all these years.

I always thought it to be good luck if it rained on your wedding day, and to meet a man that you are completely attracted to and find out he's married happens all the time. No smoking signs are all over the place so that shouldn't be a shocker. I remember hearing good advice all the time and never took it. What is ironic is backing into a telephone poll with your brand new car after leaving the eye doctor...........I did that, now that's ironic.

Def. of Ironic: Poignantly contrary to what was expected or intended i.e. madness, an ironic fate for such a clear thinker.
By that definition these things were unfortunate, not really ironic. Some of the analogies didn't even make sense. A free ride when you've already paid? Did they give you a coupon or what? :)

Some of them were ironic but I think that most were just unfortunate. Winning the lottery and dying the next day is ironic, so is finding 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife butI don't see how rain on your wedding day is ironic. That's just unfortunate.

The superstition is that if it rains on your wedding day it is good luck and you'll have a long life together.

Actually, it's just unfortunate. It's just weather. I think they just needed more words in the song.
