I feel the excitement from Christmas has gone, I used to get really excited when December began and I started to open my advent calendar. How can I get my childhood Christmas spirit back?

Wow i feel exactly the same way. I don't know what it is, i'm just like Christmas, yeah okay let me know when its here. When i was young and living with my parents they use to hang lights and you could see their house from the space station it was so bright. But now that i live on my own its just about working to get the money to spend it all on everyone else. I have been working on it by sitting in front of the fireplace watching christmas movies eating popcorn and christmas cookies and drinking hot chocolate with the ones you love. Hope this helps. Merry Christmas! :D

I know exactly what you mean. For the past few chrsitmases i have felt this way so this year i am trying to get into the spirit more.
I have bought and decorated a real x-mas tree, have bought some presents and written some cards. I am planning on getting some christmas songs to play when i am wrapping my presents, and watching chrismas movies to try and get into the christmas mood.
So far i'm looking forward to a few days away from work, but i think its impossible to get as excited about christmas as you do when you are a child, as i think christmas is mainly for kids.
As when you discover that father christmas isn't real part of the magic of christmas goes, which is a shame, but at least adults can make up for that by having a few glasses (or bottles) of champagne or wine over the christmas period.

This year I did some things that I did do as a child. I strung up popcorn and cranberries to put on the tree, made a Gingerbread House, decorated the tree and put up decorations inside and out. I haven't made cookies yet but will be doing that too. So, why not do some things now that you did as a child during the Christmas season?! Just for the heck of it, put out some cookies and milk on Christmas Eve for Santa! You could make Reindeer Food to put outside for Santas reindeer. All it is, is oatmeal and glitter shaken up together in a ziplock bag. Just anything that could bring back the childhood excitement.

We always watch a year without a Santa Clause or Rudolph the Red nose Reindeer the old classics that always manage to teach us more about the joy of giving and sharing the Spirit of Christmas.Oh another good holiday movie is "A Christmas Story" other things we go out and cut a real tree on the farm and we decorate with strings of popcorn and cranberries and home made ornaments. We also do toy drives, toys for tots and things.

I don't think we can ever recapture our childhood Christmas spirit, when we were young the world was a magical place we were protected by our parents but as we grow older the magic somehow disappears and cynicism is left.
I believe we can find pleasure by repeating some of the family traditions I watch it's a Wonderful Life,White Christmas and the Great Escape, perhaps you could visit an elderly relative who was around in your childhood, or go to church.

listen to some christmas music, build a snowman, get a really great gift for someone and wrap it yourself, eat a dozen christmas cookies, write out some Christmas cards, decorate a tree, drive around and look at Christmas lights, give some money to the salvation army bell ringers, watch a great Christmas movie, buy a snowglobe, go sledding, have a giant mug of hot chocolate with a big mound of whipped cream, think about how great everyone should feel during the holidays and that it's about more than the presents. :)

I honestly dont know anything about an advent calendar but i remember when we were kids (mind you im 23 now), we would decorate our stockings, watch the same christmas shows every year, help mom bake, sing christmas carols, decorate our house, make christmas cards, go christmas light looking, and we would go to the mall and take a name off of the giving tree and buy gifts for a needy family, we would decorate christmas bulbs etc.. the list is endless! have fun!

I start thinking of how Christmas was when I was a child and listen to carols, and buy prezzies. I was at a local shop about to buy sweets for two elderly friends when one walked in. I told her what I was up to, and asked her to pick out just what she wanted!
The most I have spent on one person is around a fiver because I am overwhelmed with expenses at uni--but it is not the money one has or hasn't, or the gifts given or recieved.
For me it is living in the light of what Christmas means--Jesus' Birthday celebration, family and friends. A few prezzies is nice, and the tree is still our grand centre piece, but alas, the material things are the least of all

Until you have children of your own, you become an "elf". As my children got older and learned about Santa, they were feeling just the way you feel. So I turned them into "elves". They had to protect the secret of Santa Claus and help with the business of shopping and wrapping for their younger siblings. As they got older and had kids of their own, they easily made the transition to Santa Claus. My youngest child is 14 now and he is an Elf for his nieces and nephews.
If you don't have younger siblings or nieces and nephews, go to the mall and take a name off an Angel Tree. Make sure it just has one child on it (a family could be overwhelming) and become an Elf. I'm sure you'll find, that as you are shopping, your excitement will come back. It will be a different feeling than you had as a child but just as exciting.
Merry Christmas from Mama Santa and her 6 happy Elves!

You need to plan and do special things as surprises for those you love. What you're missing is the sense of anticipation. Of course now you know a lot more about it, and your senses are dulled...you may have to work on it a bit harder. Make an ocasion of it; do a real "countdown" with that calendar, and plan ahead.
Plan activities with children, if you like children. Sometimes seeing it thru their young eyes helps.
Do something for someone who's lonely or needs help or friendship. You can't warm someone else's heart without warming your own.
