I attended year-round school in Junior High. There were four 'tracks'. The first three tracks began in September, and the fourth track began three weeks later.
Every three weeks, one track would rotate out, and another would rotate in. In essence, it was 3 weeks off, 9 weeks on.

I loved it. A decent vacation every 9 weeks.

The school was not overcrowded, and well-behaved students could even ride the bus to school during their off times and attend 'fun' classes like guitar, band, choir, P.E., or drama if they wanted.

Year round school is just like a regular schedule except that the summer is shorter and some of the other breaks are longer. The overall number of days in class is the same. And the advantage can be that if you like winter you can be up on the slopes long after everyone else goes back to school.
