I'm actually gonna answer this one myself because I see it was supposedly resolved before but answer was incomplete...

a traditional unit of volume equal to 1/2 quart. There are three different quarts in use in Britain and the United States, and hence there are three different pints: [i] the U. S. liquid pint, equal to exactly 28.875 cubic inches, 16 fluid ounces, or approximately 473.176 milliliters; [ii] the U. S. dry pint, equal to 33.600 cubic inches or approximately 550.611 milliliters; and [iii] the British Imperial pint, equal to 20 British fluid ounces, 34.678 cubic inches or approximately 568.261 milliliters. The origin of the word pint is unclear. It may come from the Latin pincta, painted, referring to a marking at the one-pint level on a larger container.

so it can either be 473 or 550 in the USA or 568 in the UK

I believe it can also be different in other parts of the world like Australia, anyone wanna answer with their countries conversion ?

The pint is a unit of volume or capacity. It is used mainly in the U.S., the UK and the Republic of Ireland. The value differs between countries, and the U.S. has two types of pint:

1 Imperial pint (UK) = 20 UK fluid ounces ≈ 568 mL (0.56826125 litres more exactly)
1 Imperial pint (UK) = 4 UK gills (this was the legal definition although in some areas a gill of milk or beer referred to 1/2 pint; elsewhere a gill was the 1/3 pint of milk given free to school children)
1 pint (U.S., wet) = 16 U.S. fluid ounces = 2 U.S. cups ≈ 473 mL (0.473176473 litres exactly)
1 pint (U.S., dry) ≈ 551 mL (0.5506104713575 litres exactly)

! UK pint = 568 ml.

In my experience the only people asking this are referring to a UK pint of beer/ale/cider etc... And are curious as to the comparison with a European large beer serving measure of 500ml. (Except the French simply do not get this, and like to serve a glass with a head of approximately half the volume of the glass!)

ps - in the US may I ask, what is a "dry pint" of anything? A volume of air?

In school classes we show that a quart is just shy of a liter. I would not use the dry pint. 473
Is the Canadian quart the same as British.
