turn on the vacuum cleaner and let it outcry the baby. Your baby will find this futile and stop.

Long list of suggestions:
1. Use the 5 S's of which I can only remember 4 Shush, Swaddle, Sway, Suck. Make a loud shushing noise in the baby's ear, swaddle her tight and sway while holding the baby close to you being sure not to jiggle the head too much. Insert a binky or pinky. If you want to see the whole thing get the Happiest Baby on The Block DVD. Works awesome.
2. If the baby fidgets a lot after feedings do shorter feedings more often. Most of the time it is GER. Also known as herat burn and lasts about 3-6 months. Keep baby at 45 degree angle for 20 minutes after feeding. (The Car Seat is a great place to have the baby sleep and no you should not feel bad.)
3. Is the babies stomach tense when crying? Hard like a rock? Kid could be having some gas. Gripe Water is helpful for SOME kids.
4. COuld be colic and if that is the case it will be awhile before the baby sleeps.

Good luck

This is quite an ordeal, I know. Just when you are the most physically drained from childbirth, the most demanding work is required. However, as long as you do have the strength here are some things that worked for me (List Below.) If you need help from someone you trust, get it so that you can sleep. This part does not last very long, six weeks is better, 3 months is good, and 6 months is best. As the baby develops the crying goes away, a kind of peace takes over, and new activities start, which are more interactive and pleasant. So get a long term view of the month of June---very happy, fun part begins. You can do it.

Music---dance with the baby. (Not heavy metal, try some Pop or Country.) Hold him like your date and dance everywhere. When you get tired of dancing put him in a little swing you wind up. Keep the music playing.

Talk to the baby, tell him a story. He will learn to love the sound of your voice. You can sing, he's not a critic. It's about love.

Don't worry about housework or much of anything else for the
time being. Let it go, tell other people they have to help. Concentrate on calming the baby, use little rattle or a toy "barking" dog, show him colorful objects and use a mobile. Eventually his attention span will widen. They need a lot of stimulation, love, patting, affection, warmth. All of their senses are important.

Now I must tell you my children are now grown. And the greatest gift anyone gave me was a book about the first year of baby's life.
At each stage of his life, the book tells you what the baby will do and how you can help him. GO AND BUY IT!!!!! You will be very blessed.

Try to remember something---all little infants imprint on their mothers and fathers a certain way. Be calm around him, be loving, be tender and be real. Stay that way for 18 years.

Best Wishes from a well-studied Mom, and many prayers.

PS: IF you get beside yourself, and nothing is helping, go in your own room for 15 minutes, lay down close your eyes and give yourself a break. Say a prayer and go back: Angel of God, given to my child as a guardian, help me.

The Bible says: See that you are careful with these little ones as their angels look upon the face of God.

What do I know I have not taken care of a baby for 16 years.Well something is wrong. or the baby wouldn't be crying. You're not showing enough attention to the child. You must keep the baby awake most of the day and only let the 3 week old baby take six cat naps during the day. Then the baby well sleep all night. OK let get serious. U can't let the baby sleep all day, and expect it to sleep all night too. Many things are needed. Give the baby a soothing bath. Make sure the room is not too hot. That is the biggest mistake people make. The baby is dressed in hot clothes then they are wrapped in blankets. Then the heat is on. A baby gets just as hot as we do. Give the baby milk in a clean bottle and rock it rock it rock it. It will go to sleep.

It may be cholic, it could be fear...3 weeks isn't a long time to be on the planet. I know it's not easy, but it's good you're being patient. Try putting a CD player in the room with some classical music on "repeat all." Turn it down, so Baby can hear it, but it's not really pronounced. See if that calms the little one.

My personal recommendation is to get a rocker/recliner (not a wooden glider; those things are dreadfully uncomfortable, but a La-Z-Boy style, upholstered, reclining rocker). You might be spending some uneasy nights rocking and cuddling the poor dear, so you'll want to be as comfy as possible.

3 weeks isn't old enough yet to be left alone to calm oneself, so talk to the pediatrician and ask about cholic. And then, try to grab a nap.

We're pulling for you. We've been there, and we sympathize... Good luck--

Bless your heart. I would try maybe a bath with lavender or maybe a rub down with the lavender lotion. Also try a car ride. Is s/he nursed or bottle fed...could it be that s/he has a hurting tummy from gas...just try some drops or a warm towel on their tummy, or bouncing gently. Try to get some where there is not to much stimulation...try putting on a soft lullaby and dim the lights, hold the baby close to you [try using a sling or pouch] And remember give yourself a break, the baby can feel your stress. I hope this helps. Best of Luck.

Strip baby naked, check every INCH for tags, hairs wrapped around toes. Etc.

Redress baby. Wrap in extra blanket. Check temperature of body after a few minutes. More or less clothing depending.

Rock, walk, dance, sing, white noise, no noise, holding, not holding, etc. Keep trying, something will work.

Your baby is 3 weeks old they don't know what they want yet, how can you know!

If the child does not have gas and is not sick then it depends on how you have your baby wrapped in the blanket,,,,When the child was in the womb it was a tight but comfty fit and that is the way you wrap your baby if the baby is young in age ,,,You did not say how old your baby was.If thisis a current question then a 3 week old baby should be wrapped in this manner.

Turn on the vacuum. Maybe he or she has gas, so give him or her some gas drops. Rock him or her to sleep. I'm sure you are aware that many things can be wrong with a baby besides hunger or a wet diaper.

Your child has what my hubby and I call "horizontalitis".
There's a lack of cuddling...Your child spend 9 months cuddled in Mommy.
Now on their own...
Take a blanket..and loosely wrap your child...making sure arms and loosely again the child's sides.
It keeps them from too much freedom and they feel all snuggly.
It worked like a charm with my son during what we call the "witching hour" which was from 3:30 PM until about 7:00PM.

Our library carries the books and DVD/Videos. I'm awaiting the DVD so that I can review it. Looks very interesting and helpful.
