Every 6 to 12 months. Defragmentation of files only properly places them not erases them. Don't waste your time defraging every month.

If your computer is running slow, do a defrag. Then try to do a defrag every couple of weeks, or whenever you delete or add lots of files or programs to your comuter.

Run it a couple times a month and just do an analyze first and see if it says that you need to defragment. If you do, do it, if not, don't.

Hi,

I check out once a month... First you click on Check not Deframent ... it it tells you "You do not need to defragment your hardrive" than you don't need to use it.

After you have deleted a bunch of files or did a HD clean up is the best time.

To "Tidy up" all your files and have more useful disk space, you can do it on a regular basis or every time you install something new or download a large ammount of information.
