Put it into a savings account or something then use it to pay for college. Then when you graduate and get a degree, you will be making more money than you would without a degree and in a sense, would be investing the money in yourself. Resist the temptation to go out and buy a bunch of new electronics like I did.

Take it to a financial adviser and have it invested for the long term.

Have it invested into something with low risk, but a good return and have it tied up for 5 to 8 years. So you can't decide to blow it on something on a whim.

Then reevaluate the strategy after that.

Or if you have a good job, buy a house if you could make the payments.

I'd recommend you take at least half and get a fine jumpstart on building life-long wealth. You've been handed something good.
(Unfortunately it came at the expense of losing a friend, I'm sorry)
Put at least some of it to work for you. Read up on investing and do what's right for your situation. With the remainder, I'd have a blast!

Put it in a savings account for 6 months and don't touch it. Don't make sudden decisions about what to do with chunks of money you receive all at once. Give yourself time to really think about it.

Save it to use for college expenses. Honor your friend by making something of yourself with the gift left to you.
