My husband and I have been talking about having a baby for a few months and decided we were ready to try but yesterday one of my coworkers announced that she is pregnant. My boss is really stressing about this since there are only 5 of us here anyway. She can't afford to lose us both so close together, even though it may be 9 months away, what if we have to quit sooner? Should I put off trying to get pregnant?

I'm also afriad of the resentment, like what if she's mad at me. Since there are so few of us we're all pretty tight at work. My boss if a friend of mine.

Let you boss worry about what they want to. You have a baby when you feel you are ready. Your boss needs to be more prepaired for times like this

I agree with Mindy who answered your question earlier. Don't concern yourself with your boss. You have an obligation to making yourself and your family happy first. And if this boss is also a friend, she should be happy for you not only professionally but personally. Go ahead and do your baby thing girl! It may take a few months anyway and even if it happens sooner than that, businesses and corporations need to be equipped to handle situations like this. We no longer live in the stone age. You could always work from home (telecommute) or go on a flex schedule. But again, let them worry about that. You concern yourself only with making your dream of becoming a mommy come true.

It's entirely up to you what you decide, but if it's a choice between upsetting your husband and upsetting your boss, I'd go with upsetting the boss, no question. How long are you going to have that job anyway? Do you plan to retire from the same company at 55? Probably not, but you'll still be married at 55. If you're serious about having a baby, you might want to break it to your boss gently, so she has plenty of time to find a replacement.

You can't devote your life to your employer. I would start ttc. Not every woman conceives right away. In fact, most do not. It might take you several months to conceive. If your co-worker just found out she's pregnant, then chances are she's at least 5 weeks along (you start counting pregnancy weeks by your last menstrual period - not the actual conception date). Therefore, since most maternity leaves are 6 weeks, even if you did conceive right away, you would most likely be going on maternity when she was returning.
I am the only person in my office that knows my job. I had some complications during my pregnancy and we just planned ahead getting a temp early enough so she had proper training and everything worked out just fine. Trust me, your office will learn to adjust and everything will be just fine. Good luck.

Don't let your boss' stress affect your family. It could take several months to conceive. Make sure you are taking your vitamins. Don't tell anyone you are trying to conceive so the boss doesn't find out and freak. I had to quit when I was 6 months pregnant.

I would go ahead and start trying to conceive, for it may take you a few months or even a YEAR to have one. Like you said, there should be plenty of time between you guys labor and delivery. Besides, they could always hire a temp?? I think that you need to do what is best for you and your husband. I hope that everything goes well and best of luck!

This is a decision you and your husband made NOT YOU BOSS! let her be mad there is not a damn thing she can do to you let her be pissed she can't fire you ever heard of the family act? don't put your life on hold for anyone! you never know what life will hand you, you could be like me and it took 23 years to conceive my child. Do what your heart tells you let your boss go sulk in her own tears! I say you go girl start making a baby.

Since you don't know how long it will take for you to get pregnant, I would say go for it. If it's really important to you, you need to put yourself before your job. If you want to try and have a baby then try!!! Have fun~!

I would start trying... they can't fire you for being pregnant. It may take a while for you to conceive, so I think you will be fine. Good luck.
