the vikings broke up into different area. England, Ireland, France, Iceland, Norway (a lot went here), and I think Finland for the major places.

Engalnd was held by vikings before the 1000s and then they were usurped by William the Counquor- who held land in France and Normandy.
The high king of Ireland made a deal to let a viking counquorer, olaf the white, be a legal Irish king and marry one of the high-princesses.

I don't how the other lands were secured
