I would say half the chance. For example, "The Apprentence" held auditions across the country for the latest season. They were in New York and thousands of people showed up and applied. Then one of the producers was talking to a girl who applied. He asked her why they should pick her for the show, and she was stumbling on her words, like saying " well, uh". Later he said, people half to be able to sell their story and make it interesting in a few seconds if they want to make it on the show. If they can't do that then they will be looked over.

Chances depend on how many people apply to be on the show, your qualifications, your mental ability, your physical well being... etc.. There are several factors that producers look at. Good luck to your dad.

Very low...tens of thousands sign up and they usually only pick one person who is "older" than in their mid 30's.
