The Germans received iron ore from neutral Sweden. To reach Germany the Swedish and German ships had to travel along the coast of Norway. If the allies captured Norway they could block the Germans from receiving vital iron ore from Sweden. So this lead to the German invasion in 1940. I might add the Germans beat the British invasion force by a few days.
The Germans used Norway as an air base from which bombers struck England during the battle of Britain. The air force and Navy units attacked allied supply convoys making the Murmansk run to Russia.
Lastly, the Germans used Norway as a route to resupply German forces fighting in Finland.
